Scuff-sanded every profile. Shellac-based bonding primer. Two coats catalyzed acrylic — no brush marks, no roller stipple.

Full degreasing with TSP substitute — hardware and hinges removed, surfaces wiped twice.

Scuff-sand all profiles with 220-grit to break the existing finish and open the wood grain.

One coat shellac-based bonding primer, force-dried with heat gun. This is what stops the oak tannins from bleeding through.

Two full spray coats of catalyzed acrylic topcoat in Peppercorn SW 7674 — applied off-site on door panels, in-place on face frames.

Reinstall with brushed-nickel hardware. Final cure inspection at 72 hours.

Project 02Two-Tone Island Layout · Thermofoil

Thermofoil stripped, MDF scrim-coated, island in Naval — uppers in Alabaster. The contrast makes the footprint look twice as big.

Heat-strip all thermofoil — every door and drawer front brought to bare MDF.

Two coats of oil-based primer on MDF edges to seal the porous substrate. Skip this and paint bubbles within a year.

Island and lower cabinets sprayed Naval SW 6244 — a deep navy that grounds the kitchen.

Upper cabinets sprayed Alabaster SW 7008 — the contrast draws the eye up and makes 9-foot ceilings read as 11.

Custom-mixed glaze applied to island for a furniture finish. Hardware swap to matte black.

Project 031970s Knotty-Pine Basement Bar

Dark dated knotty-pine basement bar cabinets from the 1970s with visible knots and orange wood tones

Knotty pine is the hardest surface we coat — every knot bleeds. We use a two-primer system nobody else does.

Full sand to bare wood — knotty pine has deep grain that traps old finish in the valleys.

First primer coat: oil-based knot-blocking primer. Dries 24 hours. Every knot gets a second spot-prime.

Second primer coat: catalyzed waterborne primer for adhesion and film build. Sanded again at 320-grit.

Two spray coats Pure White SW 7005 — the knots read as texture, not defect. The grain shows through the paint as depth.

Bar top refinished with two-part epoxy clear — heat and water resistant. Good for another 40 years.
